Funny Girl and The Way We Were 😭 I adored your takeaways from Barbra’s memoir! Super juicy. And I can’t believe I didn’t think about picking this one up in audiobook form…that’s gotta be the only way to consume it! It’s on my list now.
Her memoir is next on my list. I have finished Viola Davis's memoir, "Finding Me." Also an excellent listen, hard to hear some of the trauma and racism she endured. How much she has worked on her craft and all she has accomplished for herself and black women in today's world, is truly remarkable.
Listening to Streisand narrate the book is magical. The detail... everything she ate, wore, every lyric, artwork....is astounding. But what impresses me most, and the lesson I am learning, is how unapologetic she is about her curiosity, drive, intelligence, and vision. She has always known what she wanted and yes, worked her ass off to get it. Makes me proud to be a DIFFICULT woman!
I am more excited than ever to listen this now. I remember when she came to our house in NYC to look into renting it for a location for Prince of Tides, but something about it wasn't right. I need to go back and look at the house she finally chose. It's a travesty she was snubbed by the DGA.
Wow, how much is Barbara paying you to be her agent. I wanted to stop while reading your post to tell my wife how we have to get the memoir for an upcoming trip, but you kept dragging me back. I grew up with her on the record player. We had maybe twenty albums max, but two were hers and we heard them a lot. I've always appreciated her work and as you say self-deprecation. Thanks so much for posting Kim.
So many Streisand favorites--but one that popped up when I saw your q. was _Nuts_ -- I can't remember if she also directed it. Have you read Richard Deming's This Exquisite Loneliness: What Loners, Outcasts, and the Misunderstood Can Teach Us About Creativity? I plan to write about it soon.
One of the first movies I ever saw was Hello, Dolly. I didn't understand much of it, but I remember being enchanted by it.
The Way We Were is my all time favorite. Barbara film.

Oh, thanks for the recommendation. Sounds amazing. 💜

Wow, I didn't know that's why Barbara had stage fright. How horrible and sad that had to happen to her.

I can sing the whole Guilty album by heart. This woman is phenominal!

Thank you for this review… I’m not typically an audio book person but I couldn’t think of a better person to narrate through my days than Barbara.💕
Well, now I'm going to have to set aside 48 hours. Cheers, Kim. xo
